Dental Implants Vs Dental Veneers. Which Is Better?
Dental Veneers are one of the most amazing ways to disguise teeth that are badly shaped, have very dark colour, change smiles and even bring back confidence for someone who had a unaesthetic smile.
Dental Implants are also another great way to improve a smile, especially if teeth are broken down, having teeth that are unable to be fixed or teeth that have been root canal treated and keen breaking.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are used when teeth are removed from the mouth and in their place a screw is placed in the bone where the root was. This is called a dental implant.
Once the screw has been placed in the bone, the screw will then integrate and become one with the bone. This roughly takes 3 to 4 months to happen.
After the 3 to 4 months have passed, a crown (a fake tooth or piece of porcelain which looks like a tooth) is placed on top of the dental implant, allowing a beautiful smile to be restored and allowing chewing in the mouth again.
Multiple dental implants can be placed in the mouth if teeth are extremely damaged. This can help to make teeth functional and beautiful once again.
What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental Veneers are a layer of porcelain or filling material that cover the front surface of a tooth for the purpose of disguising the shape, size or colour of teeth underneath. They are a great way to improve a smile or to get your dream smile!
Dental Veneers can be done using a few different ways such as composite veneer route where your dentist can build the teeth up and make them look gorgeous using composite material, then there is the injection moulding route where composite material is moulded over the teeth to give a certain shape, colour and size, and finally we have the supreme of the supreme, the porcelain veneers which are made by the dentist and dental laboratory.
Just remember! Dental veneers are not always permanent. Click on our article here to see more information on the lifespan of dental veneers.
Dental Implants Vs Veneers:
Dental Implants and Dental Veneers are both used in different scenarios depending on what you need.
The dental implants are used mainly when dental veneers or dental crowns (similar to a dental veneer) cannot be used and only option is for tooth to be removed. When teeth are root canal treated and have reinfection that cannot be fixed or if the tooth is so broken down and cannot be saved a dental implant can be placed and later a dental crown placed on top of the implant.
The dental veneers are mainly used in situations where teeth are health or have minimal fillings. Us as dentist prefer not to veneer teeth that have fillings on but rather crown them (a crown is similar to a veneer but just covers the entire tooth where a veneer only covers the front side of the tooth) to allow for better aesthetics and prevent future problems.
Your dentist will have the best advice on what you need in your own personal case as this depends on your personal needs in each case.
Dental Implants vs Veneers cost:
Dental Implants cost more than dental veneers due to dental implants requiring more work and components to complete the process. If the process is done through a laboratory then the costs will also increase when it comes to dental implants.
Veneers often cost a bit less than dental implants but it depends if a laboratory is used or if it’s made in house.
To give an exact amount is difficult as there are so many contributing factors to the cost of dental implants vs dental veneers. The best thing to do is to ask your dentist and they will be able to give you an estimate on how much it will cost.
